Rally History
The Holden Torana GTR-XU1 won the Australian Rally Championship in 1971 and 1972 with Colin Bond at the wheel and in 1973 with Peter Lang.
This Bathurst specification Torana GTR XU-1 was purchased in September 1971 by Mr. Barry Burt, from the Holden dealer in Geelong.
It was used as a road car and for club level motor sport until being stolen in the mid 1970s. When recovered it was rebuilt as a rally car in 1976 with the help of Harry Firth, and rallied in Victoria by Barry Burt.
It was sold some years later to Mr. Denis Baker and driven by him in several events in Victoria, before being sold after competing in the George Derrick Memorial Trial in 1985.
The current owner bought the car in April 1991 and since then it has been used for motor sport events including historic rallies and autocross events.
Today it is still used for competition and driven to events regularly, complete with the rallying equipment and vehicle modifications from it early rallying days of the 1970s.
